The Mike M. and Patricia M. Ignat Scholarship

The Mike M. & Patricia M. Ignat Scholarship was established with the Roscommon County Community Foundation in January 2009. The Fund will be used to award an annual scholarship for graduating students of Houghton Lake High School, interested in pursuing a degree in Hospitality or Dietetics.

Pat Ignat was born Feb. 21, 1925, in Minneapolis, MN. She and Mike Ignat were married March 27, 1965 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Oshkosh, WI.

Kelly Dunmire Memorial Scholarship

The Kelly Dunmire Memorial Scholarship will be awarded annually to provide a freshman scholarship to a female Roscommon High School graduating senior who participates in sports, has a financial need, a 2.3 (C+) GPA and intends to major in the dental or medical field.

The Roscommon Soccer Teams Scholarship

The Roscommon Soccer Teams Scholarship

The Roscommon Soccer Teams Scholarship will provide first year only financial scholarships for players on the Roscommon High School Soccer Teams. To be eligible, the graduate must have been a member of the squad or manager for three (3) years.

The Beverly Nester Memorial Scholarship

Beverly Nester was born Beverly Lee Wintrode, on December 1, 1932, near Andrews, IN, a small farming town about 50 miles southwest of Fort Wayne. She was the eldest of three siblings and the only girl. Eventually her Father took a job at Ford, in Detroit, and they moved to Michigan. Bev and her brothers finished school in Detroit at Northwestern High School. It was there that she met her future husband, Don Nester.

Ralph Ostling Memorial Scholarship

Ralph Ostling was know for his greetings “Glad to see you,” or “Hey, how are you doing.” His broad smile and healthy handshake made instant impressions and let you know he was a person who cared and who would listen. That was Ralph Ostling, our state representative for 20 years, who championed many causes affecting his constituents and became a voice in Lansing before he left office in 1993.

The Rex and Arlene Gillen Scholarship

At the time of Arlene’s death in March of 2003, an initial gift of 2.9 million was given to the Roscommon County Community Foundation and The Rex and Arlene Gillen Scholarship Fund was established.

This scholarship fund will assist with the education of students graduating from Houghton Lake High School, Home Schooled or at private school who have a C+ (2.25) GPA and reside in Denton and Roscommon Townships, of Roscommon County.
