The Beverly Nester Memorial Scholarship
Beverly Nester was born Beverly Lee Wintrode, on December 1, 1932, near Andrews, IN, a small farming town about 50 miles southwest of Fort Wayne. She was the eldest of three siblings and the only girl. Eventually her Father took a job at Ford, in Detroit, and they moved to Michigan. Bev and her brothers finished school in Detroit at Northwestern High School. It was there that she met her future husband, Don Nester.
Don & Bev lived in Warren, MI where Don worked in car sales and Bev worked as a Comptroller. They raised their three children, a boy and two girls, and enjoyed spending time with extended family during holidays and other joyous occasions. In the mid-70’s they started spending time with friends in Northern Michigan, near Lewiston. They enjoyed summers boating and winters snowmobiling, and soon purchased their own cottage.
They were presented with an opportunity to buy a Chevrolet dealership in Roscommon, MI. So, Bev and Don, along with their eldest son and his family, moved to Roscommon and set to work building a successful family business – Don Nester Chevrolet.
Bev was an active member of the local Zonta club. As a member of the Zonta organization she looked forward to the yearly book sale. Being an avid reader, she donated at least 50 books to each year’s sale.
She had a lot of friends and enjoyed spending time with them, bowling at Fred’s and golfing on a ladies league at Fox Run. In addition, she and Don took trips with their friends to Florida. They both enjoyed travel, taking a trip to Rome, Italy and a cruise to Alaska.
Bev was a very generous woman who loved to spoil her friends and family. She went out of her way to make time for her grandchildren, often taking them on special trips. She always made sure that her grandchildren had what they needed and most of what they wanted, too.
Bev enjoyed life, some of her favorite times where holidays spent with friends & family. During the holidays she spent weeks elaborately decorating the house, the tree, planning fantastic meals and shopping for gifts galore.
Although, Bev was generous and giving to her family and friends, she also had very high expectations. She valued education and hard work. Bev wanted nothing more than for all of her children and grandchildren to be as successful as possible and to live up to their full potential.
It was in her memory and in honor of her appreciation of education and hard work, that Don Nester created the Beverly Nester Memorial Scholarship, keeping her generous spirit involved in the education of the students of Roscommon Area Public Schools.
